The Role of Islamic Religious Education Teachers in Preventing Students’ Promiscuity at SMP Wahyu Makassar

Abstrak

This study examines the role of Islamic Religious Education teachers in preventing students’ promiscuity at SMP Wahyu Makassar. The study was motivated by the growing concern over free association among adolescents, which can weaken moral awareness, discipline, religious commitment, and social responsibility. Islamic Religious Education teachers are expected not only to teach religious knowledge but also to guide students’ character, provide spiritual direction, and create a religious school culture that protects students from harmful social influences. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The informants consisted of the vice principal, the Islamic Religious Education teacher, and students of SMP Wahyu Makassar. The data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that the role of Islamic Religious Education teachers is implemented through four main functions: educator, role model, spiritual mentor, and character builder. Teachers prevent promiscuity by strengthening Islamic education and character, building open communication with students, conducting personal guidance, involving parents, and habituating religious activities such as congregational prayer, Qur’an recitation, supplication before and after learning, and short religious talks. Supporting factors include good cooperation among teachers and parents, school policy support, religious facilities, and the commitment of the school to character education. Inhibiting factors include the negative influence of social media, peer pressure, and students’ limited awareness of healthy social interaction. This study affirms that the prevention of promiscuity among students requires continuous religious guidance, exemplary teacher behavior, family-school collaboration, and digital literacy reinforcement.
