The Strategy of Islamic Religious Education Teachers in Developing Students’ Morals Amid the Impact of Social Media at SMP Negeri 4 Pitu Riawa

Abstrak

This study examines the strategies of Islamic Religious Education teachers in developing students’ morals amid the impact of social media at SMP Negeri 4 Pitu Riawa, Sidenreng Rappang Regency. The rapid development of social media has influenced students’ daily behavior, communication patterns, discipline, learning motivation, and manners. Platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook, and YouTube provide positive opportunities for learning and religious motivation, but they also expose students to negative content, excessive screen time, impolite language, and imitative behavior that may weaken moral values. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. The research was conducted at SMP Negeri 4 Pitu Riawa, involving the Islamic Religious Education teacher, guidance and counseling teacher, school principal, and students as research informants. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, while data validity was ensured through source and technique triangulation. The findings show that students’ use of social media is relatively high and has become part of their daily activities. Social media has both positive and negative impacts on students’ morals. Positive impacts include access to Islamic lectures, motivational content, religious reminders, and educational information. Negative impacts include reduced discipline, decreased learning focus, weakened politeness, individualistic behavior, delayed school assignments, and the tendency to imitate inappropriate trends or communication styles. The strategies used by Islamic Religious Education teachers include giving advice, strengthening Islamic values, supervising and controlling social media use, habituating positive behavior, providing teacher role modeling, and collaborating with parents. These strategies are considered important in guiding students to use social media wisely and maintain moral behavior in accordance with Islamic teachings and social norms.
