The Influence of YouTube Social Media on Islamic Religious Education Learning Motivation at SMP Negeri 1 Bontonompo

Low student motivation in Islamic Religious Education (IRE) learning in the digital era requires innovative and technology-based instructional responses. This study examines the influence of YouTube social media on students' motivation to learn Islamic Religious Education at SMP Negeri 1 Bontonompo, Gowa Regency. The study employed a quantitative approach with a causal-associative design. The research population consisted of 182 eighth-grade students, and 61 students were involved as respondents through cluster random sampling. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire covering two variables: YouTube social media use and learning motivation. The YouTube variable was measured through indicators of credibility, attractiveness, content relevance, viewing duration, and informative value, while learning motivation was measured through indicators of strong learning desire, learning needs, interesting activities, a conducive learning environment, persistence, and independence. The instruments were declared valid and highly reliable, with Cronbach's Alpha values of 0.913 for the YouTube variable and 0.947 for the learning motivation variable. The results show that students' use of YouTube in Islamic Religious Education was high, with a mean score of 3.67, while students' learning motivation was also high, with a mean score of 3.89. The normality test produced a significance value of 0.070, and the linearity test showed a deviation from linearity significance of 0.173, indicating that the data met the assumptions for regression analysis. Simple linear regression yielded the equation Y = 12.123 + 1.155X, with t = 9.120 and p = 0.000. The correlation coefficient was 0.765, and the coefficient of determination was 0.585, indicating that YouTube contributed 58.5% to students' learning motivation. These findings confirm that YouTube has a positive and significant influence on Islamic Religious Education learning motivation and can be integrated as an engaging digital learning medium when used in a planned and supervised manner.
