Abstract

This study aims to investigate the influence of the school environment on the moral character formation of students at SMP Negeri 4 Galesong Selatan. The research adopts a quantitative correlational approach, involving 75 students as respondents selected through a total sampling technique. Data were collected using validated questionnaires and analyzed through descriptive and inferential statistics, including simple linear regression, t-test, and determination coefficient (R²). The findings reveal that the school environment variable scored an average of 3.92, indicating a positive and conducive learning atmosphere. Furthermore, regression analysis shows a significant influence of the school environment on students’ moral character formation, with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.456. This means that 45.6% of students’ character development is directly influenced by the school environment, while the remaining 54.4% is attributed to other factors. These results affirm that a well-structured, supportive, and value-oriented school setting plays a crucial role in shaping students’ moral behavior. The findings support previous studies that emphasize the importance of physical, social, and pedagogical aspects of school climate in fostering ethical, responsible, and empathetic individuals. It is recommended that educational stakeholders continuously improve school infrastructure, teacher role modeling, and emotionally responsive pedagogy to promote holistic character development among students.
